Complete ERP: How Manufacturers Gain Transparency and Efficiency with End-to-End ERP
While nearly every manufacturer has an ERP solution, few are making the most out of it. Unfortunately, as the manufacturing environment becomes more globalized, more complex, and more collaborative, the pain points that manufacturers face currently will only get worse as time goes on. With more data to manage, higher customer expectations, and more competition, manufacturers that can leverage a unified, agile, and complete ERP solution will be able to handle the evolving challenges presented in the manufacturing world.
To discuss this further, a recent report from the leading analyst firm Aberdeen Group looked at what it meant to have complete ERP, and how an end-to-end manufacturing ERP helped both discrete and process manufacturers to grow in the evolving competitive landscape.
The Unified Manufacturing Environment: Transparency, Collaboration, and Decision-Making with End-to-End ERP, written by Aberdeen Group Research Director Nick Castellina, looked at the top challenges manufacturers face and presented research on the value of end-to-end ERP in extending the reach and improving the ROI for manufacturing organizations.
What is Complete, End-to-End ERP?
As written in the research, complete ERP is a solution that provides visibility throughout the organization, helping manufacturers communicate internally and externally. This leads to improvements in everything from product design to process controls, and offers organizational leaders deeper insight and better control from the shop floor to the top floor.
When an organization looks at complete ERP, they are not only looking to leverage multiple modules, they are also looking to integrate the ERP with industry-specific extensions, leading to improvements in efficiency, agility, and optimization.
The Value of “Complete” ERP
From the plant floor to the top floor, collaboration is imperative, and leading manufacturers have embraced it at a much higher rate than followers, per Aberdeen. The research found that leaders have taken steps to incorporate “complete” ERP, integrating the software to get a consistent, complete view of what’s going on throughout the organization. Most notably, those with end-to-end ERP are more likely to:
- Gain real-time visibility into status of all processes (Complete: 50%, Not Complete: 33%)
- Actively and accurately trace components and items throughout the purchasing, manufacturing, and sales process (Complete: 77%, Not Complete: 57%)
- Monitor regulatory compliance (Complete: 62%, Not Complete: 39%)
- Process for a mock or real recall (Complete: 54%, Not Complete: 19%)
Additionally, those supported by a complete ERP solution are more likely to have a single source of truth, improving their ability to track product costs, manage logistics, monitor resource utilization, improve inventory control and more.
